Born in 1857, the iconic Klein Tools was originated by Mathias Klein as a U.S.-based manufacturer of hand tools. With a principal headquarter situated in Lincolnshire, Illinois, the company has branched out to other production sites in Mexico and China. In addition, Klein Tools is proud to claim sales offices located in Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Born in Germany in 1842, Mathias Klein made his way to the United States and immediately began a career as a blacksmith. In 1857, Klein had the foresight to open his own shop in Chicago, Illinois. He was soon producing some of the highest quality pliers on the market and Klein Tools was born.

Back at the turn of the 20th century, Klein Tools widened its selection to encompass screwdrivers, hammers, and wrenches. Five years later, Klein Tools launched its inaugural catalog of electrical tools- a collection utilized by electricians and linemen to investigate voltage levels, ascertain the strength of current, and sever cable sheaths.

Times changed, but the Klein Tools family business remained steadfast. Mathias Klein’s grandson, Frederick, steered the company from 1952 until he was unfortunately taken from us in 2006. Advancing the spirit and enduring legacy of Fredrick, his son and current owner, John Klein – who also serves as the president of Klein Tools – carries on the important mission.
