John Van Dorn made history in 1890 when he brought the Van Dorn Electric Tool Company to its Cleveland, Ohio home. From day one they provided an extensive collection of electric-powered instruments such as drills, saws and sanders, swiftly beating all competitors to take firm control of the electric tool market.
In the dawn of the twentieth century, the Van Dorn enterprise broadened their range of items to include a selection of lathes and milling machines. Moreover, business-minded individuals had the chance to start their own Van Dorn dealership as they were offered a variety of franchise opportunities. By the time the 1920s rolled in, that very same company brightened up America’s horizon with a network of dealerships extending across all its states.
During the 1930s, Van Dorn ushered in an array of innovative inventions such as the inaugural electric jigsaw and a groundbreaking portable electric drill. Furthermore, they delved into the automotive sector by crafting engine starters and power boosters for batteries.
In the middle of the 20th century, Van Dorn stepped up their game and started manufacturing injection molding machines made of plastic. Recognizing a need, they also ventured into the realm of power saws and woodworking machines, to provide more value to their customers.
As a testament to its innovative spirit, in the 1950s Van Dorn revolutionized the industry by introducing two powerful products to the market – a power miter saw and a radial arm saw. Additionally, they began fabricating industrial robots as well. Not wanting to stop at that, in the 60s Van Dorn went one step further by bringing out the first ever programmable robotic arm.
The 1970s saw the Van Dorn brand sold to the Black & Decker Corporation, after which the company name was retired and combined with other Black & Decker burgeons.
The lasting legacy of Van Dorn lives on through Black & Decker. They continue to produce much of the same apparatus what Van Dorn once did, and their programmable robotic arms have become an irreplaceable tool in automotive, aerospace, and medicine industries. Times may have changed, but the quality and reliability of the Van Dorn name never will.
